Joining our Alliance requires that you formally agree to follow the principles set out in the Treaty document by signing an adhesion to the Treaty, in the same manner as historic treaties are managed. Our Elder will present your application in ceremony and your adhesion, if accepted, will be bound to the Wiiche'iwaymagon Alliance Treaty document by a red ribbon, signifying the living, sacred and growing nature of the Treaty.
Upon adhering to the Treaty, you will receive all notices and communications related to the Wiichiwaymagon Alliance and will be invited to join the conversation as an ally. First Nation or Inuit adherents to the Treaty are expected to join the Board of Directors of the Wiiche'iwaymagon Buying Alliance to advocate for their community members in bringing about real change by governing the operations of the Buying Alliance.
There are two orders of membership in the Wiiche'iwaymagon Buying Alliance, the nation level and the community level.
Nation membership is for First Nation or Inuit Organizations such as Tribal Councils, Health Authorities, Self Government, etc. that represent a group of communities in political advocacy, food security, food sovereignty, health, Treaty rights or restoration of tradition. Members at this order are expected to advocate for their communities within the Buying Alliance and externally with governments on behalf of their member communities and on behalf of the Wiiche'iwaymagon Alliance.
Nation members gain a voting seat on the Wiiche'iwaymagon Buying Alliance Board of Directors and will be responsible for presenting individual communities for community-order membership. Board Members must agree to the Buying Alliance bylaws and must remain in good standing while conducting themselves in accordance with the principles set out in the Wiichw'iwaymagon Treaty Document.
Communities represented by a Tribal Council, First Nation or Inuit Organization Alliance member already have unofficial membership in the Wiiche'iwaymagon Treaty and can immediately begin benefiting from services offered by our Alliance partners. Simply contact your Harvesters Support Grant recipient organization.
Communities wishing to join the Wiiche'iwaymagon Buying Alliance must have their membership presented by a sitting Board Member who will ensure that they have the capacity to receive and store and distribute food and other items shipped by the Buying Alliance. The Board Member will then present that community's membership for decision by the Board of Directors, acting as their advocate.
Upon acceptance, the community receives non-voting membership and becomes eligible for yearly surplus revenues redistribution from the Wiiche'iwaymagon Buying Alliance (prorated on their purchases made through the Buying Alliance).
