MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
BETWEEN
HARVESTER SUPPORT PROGRAM RECIPIENTS
AND
STAKEHOLDERS: FOOD BANKS CANADA, HARVEST MANITOBA, FEED ONTARIO, REGIONAL FOOD DISTRIBUTION NETWORK
AND
BREAKFAST CLUB OF CANADA, SECOND HARVEST
Wiiche’waymagon members which include Nutrition North Canada Harvesters Support Grant recipients and Food Bank Agencies, Breakfast Club of Canada, and Second Harvest are committed to our communities and regions’ prosperity, health, well-being, and development. The parties recognize and respect each member's independence, and expertise and the importance of transparent relationships built on trust and natural, open communication as we listen, learn, and share.
In this Memorandum of Understanding (hereinafter referred to as “MOU”), Harvester Support Grant Recipients, Food Bank Agencies, Breakfast Club of Canada, and Second Harvest (hereinafter referred to as the “Parties” or singularly as “Party”) wishing to encourage, share, and facilitate opportunities through collaboration to support and promote culturally enriched benefits based on equality and reciprocity:
1. The Parties agree that the needs of the most vulnerable of all cultures, communities, and societies are foremost to this agreement and that no one (regardless of culture, social status, income level, or age) should be allowed to go hungry in a country as rich as Canada, particularly elders and babies.
2. The Parties intended to foster the development of strong relations between each other and recognize the importance of collaborating on initiatives that create emergency and low-cost supply networks for our First Nation communities who face a higher disparity in food access and security.
3. The First Nations Parties to this Agreement agree that “A hand up, Not a Hand-out” is an underlying principle of this agreement and has as an objective to increase self-reliance and Food Sovereignty as a goal with the hope that all peoples included in the “Mantario” region will benefit;
4. TheParties wish to collaborate in planning for, developing, and establishing opportunities for members of each Party respectively.
5. The Parties intended to collaborate on the following:
6. The Parties wish to explore agreements, separate from this MOU, for each initiative or service that the Parties propose to be developed.
7. Any collaboration in a particular area shall be negotiated in an agreement between the Parties separate from this MOU.
8. The Parties will establish a Steering Group, which will meet as required to make progress on the principles of this MOU.
9. Under this MOU, and in any collaboration arising from this MOU, neither Party will incur any financial obligations resulting from the actions of the other Party without a prior agreement in writing, separate from this MOU, to accept specific financial obligations.
10. The Parties understand that any agreement pertaining to financial matters will be conditional upon the availability of funds for each Party.
11. This MOU will be in effect from the latest date of signature and shall continue thereafter, from year to year, until such time that:
a) All Parties agree in writing to terminate it; or
b) Any Party gives at least six (6) months' written notice of termination to the other Parties.
12. While in effect, this MOU may be amended at any time by mutual written consent of the Parties.
13. This MOU does not bind the Parties and contains no enforceable legal obligations.
The following signatures are affixed as acknowledgment and notification of the terms of this MOU:
